About Orebit

Orebit is an open-source geological workflow toolkit built by working geologists, for working geologists. We believe professional-grade resource estimation tools shouldn't cost USD 30K/year or require uploading sensitive drillhole data to someone else's server.

The Problem

Most geological software is expensive, cloud-dependent, and designed for large mining companies. Small teams, junior geologists, and academic researchers are locked out of professional workflows — forced to cobble together spreadsheets and hope for the best.

Our Approach

Orebit runs entirely on your laptop. No install. No uploads. No subscription. Your drillhole data stays on your laptop — always. The workflow covers the three critical stages of resource estimation:

  1. Orebit Core — collar, survey, assay validation and desurveying
  2. Orebit Assay — statistics, compositing, domain analysis
  3. Orebit Resource — variogram modeling, kriging, KCMI/JORC classification

About the Founder

Ghozian Islam Karami is a geologist and mining digitalization practitioner working at the intersection of geology, geostatistics, and AI — building transparent, auditable, and data-driven mining workflows.

He holds a master's degree from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), with research in geostatistical modeling of satellite observations for hydrogeology applications. His work is indexed on Google Scholar and ResearchGate, including studies on groundwater storage and GRACE satellite-based evapotranspiration detection. He is a registered Competent Person (CP, ACM) and BNSP-certified.

Beyond research, Ghozian writes technical content for the geoscience community — the "R for Geoscientists" and "R for Hydrogeologists" series — as part of a commitment to closing the gap between modern data-science methods and everyday geoscience practice. He built Orebit as an answer to a real frustration: too many tools that are expensive and closed, too little technical content in Bahasa Indonesia, and too few places where junior geologists can learn machine learning without the hype.
